Perugia: Eurochocolate

When: October 14th to 23rd, 2016

Every year in October, the town of Perugia (less than 3 hours north of Rome) becomes the City of Chocolate. Eurochocolate is the largest European festival for lovers of sweet cocoa, attended by a million visitors from Italy and all over the world. The giant chocolate sculptures that can be admired while strolling through the characteristic alleys make for a unique sight. You will see chocolate in a brand new light, and you will be able to taste it, too, by joining the various tastings and activities that the festival offers to visitors big and small.

Reserve your chauffeur with Gaeta Taxi Service and plan your itinerary – you may want to include visits to nearby towns such as Assisi (a sacred destination, best known as the birthplace of St. Francis) and Orvieto (with its impressive Cathedral and refined wine).

Salerno: Christmas Lights

When: late November to early January

In recent years, the Southern city of Salerno (around 3 hours south of Rome) has become the ideal destination to feel the Christmas spirit, thanks to the “Artist Lights” manifestation, where Christmas markets and lights line the streets, with a different theme every year. This event has been attracting an increasing number of visitors from both Italy and abroad, enchanted by a magical atmosphere of music, laughter, and lights that can be felt everywhere in town, from the main road to the Park (transformed for the occasion into a magical garden), and through the alleys of the town center.

Let Gaeta Taxi Service escort you to this dreamy Christmas display and enjoy the opportunity to discover what else the city of Salerno has to offer!

Gaeta: Streets of Gaeta

When: September 24th, 2016

The characteristic coastal town of Gaeta, nestled between Rome and Naples, celebrates its local delicacies every year in September, in an all-day event where locals prepare and sell typical homemade foods along one of its most characteristic alleys. Local delicacies like the renowned octopus “tiella” (stuffed savory pie), salt cod fritters, anchovy fritters, and many more line the street in an open market, accompanied by local wine and live music, in a lively, vibrant atmosphere. Interestingly, the only currency accepted by the vendors for this event is the “follaro”, Gaeta’s ancient currency – but don’t worry, exchange points are available all along the market (Euros only).

Book your private transfer with Gaeta Taxi Service and consider spending a few days in this beautiful seaside resort – we’ll be happy to recommend accommodation, activities and sights to make your visit unique.

Siena: The Palio Horse Race

When: July 2nd and August 16th

The Tuscan town of Siena has prepared the entire year for its historic secular horse race since 1644. The rules of the race haven’t changed, nor has the location, the magnificent Piazza del Campo with its unique layout. The race is held twice per year and sees the participation of 10 of the 17 Contradas, or districts, that the town is divided into. This competition, a mix of tradition, folklore, superstition and religion, is the pride of the town of Siena, and consists of strategies and alliances with the ultimate goal of conquering the Palio trophy, a rectangular painting that is commissioned to a different artist every year.

Choose Gaeta Taxi Service to reach Siena and take this opportunity to explore the surrounding area as well. Contact us and we will help you create the perfect itinerary to meet your needs and those of your travel companions.

Matera: Living Nativity Scene

When: late November to early January

Every year around Christmas time, the entire city of Matera (230 miles South of Rome) transforms into the largest nativity scene in the world. Matera’s unique landscape, with the characteristic sassi (ancient cave dwellings), is ideal to host a representation of ancient Palestine, to the point that the town was chosen as the backdrop of several features on Jesus’ life (including Mel Gibson’s Passion of the Christ). The living nativity scene has a different theme every year, and even visitors are allowed to participate as extras on certain days.

Contact Gaeta Taxi Service to travel safely and comfortably to this charming event. For those wishing to enjoy to the fullest the unique Christmas atmosphere of Southern Italy, we recommend adding a visit to Salerno (to see the Artist Lights) and the Christmas Alley in Naples – we’ll be glad to help you make up a perfect weekend itinerary to suit your needs!

Naples: Christmas Alley

When: All year long, especially around Christmas time

San Gregorio Armeno, an ancient, narrow alley in Naples’ historic center, is famous all over Italy for its “presepe” (Nativity scene) workshops and stalls. While open all year long, around Christmas time the alley acquires a unique, magical atmosphere, becoming an open market abounding with all sorts of figurines that make the Neapolitan Nativity unique. The world-famous Neapolitan creativity is seen at its best here, as traditional figurines are displayed alongside caricatures of celebrities, politicians, and football players, in a mix of sacred and popular that is typical of this city.

A visit to this alley is an experience not to be missed, and Gaeta Taxi Service will be glad to escort you and your travel companions in a comfortable, safe car.
