Tivoli and Castel Gandolfo
From Roman Villas to Papal Villas: an itinerary that traces through history the summer residences of the Rome that always counted.

Morning
Arrival in Tivoli, a very ancient town, rich in churches and historical monuments and best known for its magnificent Villas. In the morning it will be possible to visit Hadrian‘s Villa, the largest Roman imperial villa, and then stroll through the historic center of the village to discover such treasures as the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore, the Gregorian Bridge, and the Cathedral of San Lorenzo.
Afternoon
After lunch we reach the Villa Gregoriana Park for a picturesque walk at the foot of Tivoli’s acropolis. We then continue with a transfer to Castel Gandolfo, the Pope’s summer residence, to visit the Papal Villa and the splendid Barberini Garden.

Orvieto and Civita di Bagnoregio
A dive into ancient history, before the Romans arrived. A different itinerary than usual that will take you to the heart of Etruria.
Duration: 8 hours + travel to/from starting point
Morning
Arrival at Orvieto, a city founded by the Etruscans in the 9th century BC. The first stop is the striking St. Patrick’s Well which dates back to the 1500s and can be visited in all its depth thanks to an innovative helical staircase system in which those descending and those ascending never meet. Then transfer to the city center where it is possible to visit the scenic Torre del Moro, the imposing Duomo, and for those who wish also the underground tunnels and cisterns of Orvieto Undeground.
Afternoon
Transfer to Civita di Bagnoregio, one of the most beautiful and evocative villages in Italy, a must-see destination for those who want to get off the usual tourist routes. It rises in the middle of a valley, on a tuff hilltop, and can only be reached on foot across a long bridge that seems to be suspended in the air. It is referred to as “the dying city” and is currently inhabited by only a dozen or so people.

This itinerary will take you along scenic roads to discover the two pearls of the Tyrrhenian Sea, in the Riviera of Ulysses, between history and legend.

Arrive in Gaeta, a small seaside town not yet besieged by mass tourism, which hides a long and important political, cultural and religious past, beginning with Aeneas, between history and legend, who buried his nurse, Cajeta, from whom the town takes its name, here. We start at the Split Mountain with a visit to the Shrine and the Grotto of the Turk and continue with a visit to the Mausoleum of Lucius Munazio Planco on the summit of Mount Orlando. Transfer to the medieval area, where it is possible to visit the imposing Church of St. Francis, the Cathedral, which has just reopened after a long restoration, and, by the sea, the Church of the Santissima Annunziata with its marvelous Golden Chapel.

After lunch, on the scenic road to Sperlonga, visit the 1st-century A.D. Villa of Tiberius, with its famous Grotto, and the National Archaeological Museum where numerous marble sculptures found during excavations of the villa are preserved. We then continue on to the town center for a relaxing stroll to discover the old town’s stores, lookout towers and the belvedere that offers a striking view that reaches as far as Circeo.
